Anna Theresa Fraser (Murray)

Anna Theresa Fraser Murray

Born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia

August 13, 1937 – October 2, 2022

Taken in by adoptive parents Harold and Laura Murray (Cosgrove) with Laura being from Placentia, Newfoundland and Harold from the United States, Anna married Don, the love of her life and the two moved to Winnipeg. There, they became avid bowlers and had many achievements as such, with Anna working at the Park Alleys Bowling Lanes and Don a truck driver until the age of 55.

Anna suffered with Alzheimer’s disease during the last years of her life until God decided she’d had enough and let her come to him in her sleep, after spending a happy day with sons Rodney and Donnie. She is survived by her 2 sons as well as her grandsons, Jeff and Tyler, along with her sister Marie in Nova Scotia. We are confident that she is now happy again, reunited with her husband Don.

Special thanks to the staff at Poseidon Nursing Home, especially Gea and Larissa.

Special thanks also to Paramed staff member Tina. Your caring, compassion and thoughtful care are appreciated more than you can ever imagine. Gifts can be made to Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

A celebration of life will occur Monday October 17th at Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at 2pm.

  1. Our condolences to Donnie, Rodney, Jeffrey and Tyler. Aunt Anna was one of the kindest souls in this world. She was generous to a fault, caring and always treated both my sister Kelly and I as her own daughters. She was also full of life and laughter. She was actually really funny (I mean really hilarious!). She was the best story teller- and it came so natural to her. She would build up the story, give all manner of details and her punchlines had everyone in stitches. It is one of the most endearing memories I have of her and our family gatherings. Our dad, Bernie Murray, her adopted brother (passed away in November 2021) loved her dearly and would have done anything for her and Uncle Don. They were fiercely loyal to one another. Aunt Anna, Uncle Don and Aunt Marie made sure our Dad came to Winnipeg so he would not end up working in the coal mines. Scraped their pennies to buy him a one way ticket and then gave him a home to stay in and love and support. That was the kind of person Aunt Anna was. She is now reunited with the love of her life and her mischievous brother Bernie. The world was a better place with her in it. She will be missed and always remembered. Love always, Melinda.

  2. My sincere sympathies to Donnie, Rodney and family. I was the babysitter for Rodney in the 1960’s on Carlaw Avenue and on Nassau Street as well as for the Shick family – (Anna & Don’s downstairs neighbors on Carlaw) . Anna and Don always treated me with kindness and made me feel like a welcome friend in their home. I spent a lot of time with them – even when they didn’t need a sitter. They were just that nice to be around. My friends were often welcomed too. I remember Anna’s love of Pepsi, tea and cigarettes, bingo and bowling. She had a wonderful sense of humor. We lost touch after the boys were older and I left the province for a while, but I will never forget my time with the Fraser family. Anna and Don will be missed and remembered with love – may they rest in peace.

Our condolences to Donnie, Rodney, Jeremy and Tyler. Aunt Anna was a sweetheart all around, and always made us happy whenever we saw her. Uncle Don and her will be forever missed. She had that true Nova Scotia spirit and would give you her last penny and the proverbial shirt off her back and never expect anything in return. Rest in peace Aunt Anna, and hope your love Uncle Don, are enjoying a few laughs together.
