It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Earnest Melnychuk on January 11, 2022 at age 85.
Earnest was born July 10, 1936 in Canora, Saskatchewan to Dorothy and Nestor and was the eldest of four children. While serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force, stationed in Gimli, Manitoba, he met his late wife Myrtle whom he married March 3, 1957. Together they raised three daughters in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
He will be dearly missed by his loving daughters Deborah (Andrew), Karen, and Dorothy (Ernie); grandchildren, Dana (Ryan), Jarrod (Andrea), Myra (Steve), Daniel (Chelsy), Nathan, and John (Vanessa); and great-grandchildren, Bari, Jaxon, Cassie, Arlo, and Alice.
He is predeceased by his wife Myrtle of 62 years, parents Dorothy and Nestor, and sister Bernice.
Earnest joined The Royal Canadian Air Force at age 18 working as a Leading Aircraftsman. Following this, he worked in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut for The Distance Early Warning Line (DEW Line) as a supervisor until it shut down in 1993. He concluded his working career at Dr Hook towing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Earnest was almost as well known for a joke, laugh, or great story, as he was for his generosity. Well-liked by everyone who met him, he was known to always be thinking of others and heavily involved with the betterment of his community as a long-standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Shriners.
We would like to thank all the staff at Holy Family Home for their care and compassion during his time there.
At this time, no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Earnest’s name to the Holy Family Home Foundation.
