Surrounded by his family on September 12, 2019, Vern went to his eternal home and is reunited with his daughter Janice.

Vern was born on the farm at Sanford, and moved to Winnipeg with his parents in 1942.  Finished his high school at Gordon Bell and graduated from U of M with his bachelors in Agriculture in 1949. Vern and Ruth married in 1957 and together they farmed till 1980. Vern also enjoyed driving the school bus for 17 years. Vern believed in helping his community. He served on the Sanford Recreation Board, Manitoba Pool Elevator, Sanford Curling Club, Sanford Co-op and Sanford Credit Union. He was a Treasurer for 20 years for the Sanford Royal Canadian Legion. Vern also served for 20 years on the Sanford United Church Board and Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years. Ruth and Vern moved to Winnipeg in 1997 and enjoyed making new friends, while playing at various bridge and crib clubs. Vern was a very quiet man and had a very deep faith in God

Vern will be deeply missed by his dear wife Ruth of 62 years; daughter Audrey (Garth Hanna); son Bruce (Karen) and their five children; and two special great granddaughters, Rylee and Remi-Layne; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws, Garvin and Rae Kabernick, Mervin and Sharon Kabernick and Elsie Friesen, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Gwen Clarke.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at Sanford United Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
