March 17, 1951 – December 21, 2018

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Trudy at home on Friday, December 21 at age 67 after a lengthy illness.

Trudy is survived by her two brothers Dave (Linda) and Gerry (Maggie); and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.  Trudy was predeceased by her father John in 1969, and her mother Grace in 1983.

Trudy grew up and attended school in Elmwood.  She continued to live in the Elmwood/ East Kildonan community into her adult years, later moving to the West Broadway area for over twenty years. Finally, she moved to North Kildonan where she had resided for the last few years. Trudy loved Jesus and her faith in God remained strong while enduring the devastating effects of illness during the past year and knowing that her remaining time was limited.  She also had a loving place in her heart for animals, with special memories of her beloved cats Ricky, Kelly and Misty.

Trudy was a fiercely independent, strong-willed individual. She turned down several marriage proposals during her lifetime rather than compromise her independence and freedom to make her own decisions.  She was also tough and courageous, demonstrating remarkable strength and determination, despite the overwhelming challenge her debilitating medical condition presented, to literally will her discharge from the hospital and chose to spend her last days at home.

Time is the coin of your life.  You spend it.

Do not allow others to spend it for you.

    – Carl Sandberg

The family would like to thank the nurses and home care staff associated with Access River East, Priority Home Service and ParaMed Home Health Care, especially Sharron, for their compassionate care.  Special thanks to Floyd Lee and the staff of Broadway Pharmacy for their extraordinary service and genuine concern for Trudy over the past three decades.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue. Pastor Bruce Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.  Pallbearers include: Chris Gillis, Dave Gillis, Gerry Gillis, Jamie Gillis, Jody Gillis, and Don McCartney.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

                      – 2 Timothy 4:7

God bless you, Trudy.  Rest in peace dear sister.
