Picture of Stuart Lindsay Hughes

January 3, 1952 – May 20, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Stuart Lindsay Hughes on May 20, 2020 after a brief illness.

Stuart, the only child of Pauline and Ken Hughes, was born in Beverly, Yorkshire, England.

Stuart saw much of the Middle East and Africa as the family moved during his father’s career as a Squadron Leader in the RAF. He had happy memories visiting his Nana and her boxer Jane at the “Manor” which instilled in him his life-long love of dogs. He was active in school activities such as cricket, football, motocross racing and theatre.

The family immigrated to Toronto, Canada in the mid 60’s.  He attended George Brown College and then began his career with Air Canada as a flight attendant moving to his home base of Winnipeg in 1979. He was promoted to In-Flight Service Director which he held until his retirement in 2003. Stuart was very sociable and made many dear friends during his career at Air Canada and in his retirement, which included working at Windsor Plywood, ADESA Car Auction, Winnipeg Limousine, and as an actor in the Winnipeg film industry.

Stuart met the love of his life Donece in the 80’s, they started dating in the 90’s and they became husband and wife on July 1, 2006.  Donece shared Stuarts love of dogs and together they raised three boxers and a rescue dog.

Stuart enjoyed construction and restoring vehicles. He built a 4-season sunroom and a detached garage/workshop on his home and repaired and sold motorcycles. Always a Corvette lover, he purchased a 1980 Corvette that he fully restored and repainted.

The world is a sadder place without Stuart. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Stuart was pre-deceased by his mother Pauline and leaves to cherish his memory his wife Donece; his pet boxer “Missy”; father Ken and spouse Evelyn; in-laws, Thomas and Susie, Susan and Brian, Richard and Candis, Bob and Heather, Sheri and Tom; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and daughter Nicole and grandson Nathan.

Thanks to the caring staff at HSC Rehab 2nd floor, Seven Oaks 5th Floor, St. Boniface L2 and 5th Floor.

Special thanks to family who comforted Stuart in his final days and hours.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
