Stanley Grabowecky

May 26th, 1936 – April 15th, 2024

It’s with our deepest sadness to announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father and Papa, Stanley Grabowecky on April 15, 2024, surrounded by family.

He was survived by his wife Beverly of 62 years and their children Shari (Joe), Doug, and Heather, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Bob, sister-in-law Dorthy and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stan was born in Winnipeg on May 26th, 1936, to parents Stanley and Frances Grabowecky. He cherished his upbringing in their family home on Talbot, filled with fond memories. Throughout his youth, Stan’s friends affectionately called him “Stosh”.

His first jobs included working at a local cemetery and bowling alley. However, a few years later, he found his lifelong career with Manitoba Telephone Systems (MTS), where he dedicated 38 years of service. During this time, Stan had the opportunity to travel across Manitoba, experiencing many joys and admiring the breathtaking scenery.

In the year 1957, Stan met Bev. Their introduction was through a blind date at a friend’s wiener roast; four years later, on July 8, 1961, they exchanged vows. Together, they raised three children. The family created countless cherished memories through camping trips and travels to Banff and California. Stan’s passion for coaching his children’s sports teams and supporting them in every aspect of life was unwavering.

In 1985, the Grabowecky family purchased their cottage on Lee River, where Stan enjoyed many years of retirement. He relished in various activities at the cottage, including canoeing to the lagoon, hiking, and spending quality time on the dock and deck, creating lasting memories with loved ones.

During his leisure time, Stan found pleasure in watching sports, particularly the Winnipeg Jets and the Blue Jays, among others. He also delighted in solving puzzles and playing cards, such as 31, Bridge and Cribbage, while savouring beverages with family and friends in their backyard. Stan had a deep appreciation for nature and the world around him, evidenced by his avid readership of National Geographic.

He enjoyed discussing topics related to animals and nature, reflecting his profound love for the natural world. Stan was also an avid bike rider, taking on the adventure to bike from their family home to cottage a time or two.

With the arrival of grandchildren, Stan took on the endearing title of Papa. He cherished every moment spent with his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, bringing immense joy to his life and evident happiness to all around him. Known for his playful nature, Stan often teased his grandkids with simple jokes, like playfully saying, “I got your nose.”

A celebration of life is to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Siloam mission or a charity of your choosing.

Di Bouja (Cheers) – Gone but never forgotten.

Dad
Who worked so hard and saved so long
For what we have today
And anytime would sacrifice,
His chance to rest or play
Who always saw his children have
The things he did without
And gave so much unselfishly
For that’s what love about
Who sought no honours, no rewards
For all that he had done
Except to raise a family
The very finest one
Though we cannot evaluate
Our Dad, his love, his worth
To us, he’ll always be “just Dad”
The greatest guy on earth.
WE LOVE YOU! – Shari, Doug and Heather
