April 12, 1934 – May 12, 2019

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nana and GiGi, Sarah McTaggart Lightfoot (McKay) on May 12th, 2019.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 12, 1934, to Hamilton and Sarah McKay. Sarah came to Canada in 1947 alongside her mother and brother and took residency in Winnipeg. Sarah loved her family unconditionally and it did not matter if she met you once or knew you for years, you were always welcomed with kindness and open arms. Sarah loved many things in life but had a great love for animals especially horses. She spent many years in the Jockey Club and a part of the Manitoba Cat Club. Passionate for knowledge, anyone of her family members could tell you how many random facts they know because of her. She showed us strength and courage and at times how to be stubborn, but most of all she showed us love and acceptance for who we are.

Sarah was predeceased by her parents, her daughter Sandra; brother James (Jim); and sons Gordon and Sydney.

Sarah is survived by her children Heather, Ian, and Bill; grandchildren, Rhiannon, Trinity, Hunter, Ryan, Brianne, Clinton and Jordan; and great-grandchild Lily.

Family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Care Centre as well as the staff at the Grace hospital.

As per her wishes cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Ave at Henderson Hwy.

Beautiful Sarah, AKA Ma & Duck,
I think of U so often Ma, especially today when
I was attending, The Cat Fanciers of BC show, while I wondered around admiring all the incredibly beautiful kitty cat breeds I met a cat
who reminded of your sweet n gentle retired show girl, “Moon-Gazer”, she was so soft.
In times of sadness these many special memories of us on Smith St. Comfort me.
You always made everyone feel welcome.
I smile when I think back to watching the Kentucky Derby & then on the fly we set our own mad dash race record down Portage Ave
to place our bets @ The Downs on the last race, Triactor/Exactor/Quinella. β€πŸ˜»πŸ˜»πŸ‡πŸ‡πŸ‡πŸ‡ !! Awe …Ma, I love U πŸ€— I am so sorry πŸ˜₯for not making it back home to visit sooner.
Thank you for showing me unconditional love & kindness, I will treasure our friendship always. Love Holly 😻
Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end; it simply means β€˜I’ll miss you,’ until we meet again.” β€” Unknown πŸ’ž

We had such an enjoyable afternoon
reminiscing many treasured memories. Ma, This years 2022 Winner of the 148th Kentucky Derby would have blown you away !! Underdog Rich Strike won the Run for The Roses by winning against 80-1 odds. He’s a 3 yrs old thoroughbred, His jockey is Sonny Leon, he became the second biggest longshot to win in the 148-year history of the event. The announcer said there hasn’t been a bigger upset in over 100 years !!
Rick Strike, was an underdog !! He won this year’s race by 3/4 of a length ahead of two favorites, Get this Ma, Rich Strike wasn’t even supposed to be competing !! But a spot opened after a horse was scratched a day before. So there you have it !! You always said that anything
is possible, that every person has a special gift and the potential to achieve what they aspire to be, whatever they truly desiree in their heart & soul can be. Believe in yourself ❀
