November 22, 1948 – March 6, 2020

With sadness the family announces the passing of Rudi, on March 6, 2020 at the age of 71 after a 5-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 48 years Shirley (nee Taraschuk); sons Tim (Sara) and Randy (Donna); daughter Anita (Chad); grandchildren Tyler, Justin, Leigha, Sydney, Dwayne, Hope and Hannah; along with five brothers, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rudi served 33 years with the Winnipeg Police Service and retired in 2008.

After careful consideration regarding the new COVID-19 crisis, and in the interest of the community’s health, the Family has decided to livestream the memorial service. Thank you to all family, friends and former co-workers who took the time out of their days to come visit and messaged during his battle.

    I am filled with sadness at the news that Rudi lost his battle. He put up a good fight!
    Although I’d never had the privilege of partnering with Rudi, we were colleagues in the Winnipeg Police Service. Rudi was an excellent Police Officer. He was universally respected and genuinely well liked by all his peers.
    My deepest condolences to Rudi’s family.

  5. I am so sorry to read of the passing of Rudi. We worked together in the Firearms Unit. Rudi was always pleasant, hard working and willing to help others. Lots of great memories.
