Ross John McKellar

Ross McKellar

March 7, 1951 – February 20, 2023

It is with very sad hearts that the family of Ross advises of his passing on February 20, 2023 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Ross is survived by brothers Murray (Katherine) and Graham (Anna), nephews Justin McKellar and Jason Short, nieces Jasmin McKellar and Angie Lamirande and Pup, Pugsley.

Ross is predeceased by his parents Eileen and John, and brother Ralph.

Ross’s general health had been slowly deteriorating when he recently received the diagnosis of a terminal illness. Once admitted, Ross received top-notch medical and compassionate care in his final weeks of life from the Palliative Care staff.  Several of Ross’s closest friends were an amazing support to Ross and to our family during his final days.

Along with Ross’s family, he will be sorrily missed by dear friends Shirley Toews (Rod), John Hodgert (Pat), Miranda Santolini (Cesar), Glen Payne and so many others whose life Ross touched over the years through business and friendship.

Some of Ross’s favourite things included his love of pets, books, art, music, house plants, watching movies and sporting events with friends and of course, following US politics and finding the ultimate deal at thrift shops.  “Rossco” had an adventurous spirit and experienced many travels and some ‘almost in trouble’ adventures that some can recall (or participated in).  Ross was a very kind, funny and intelligent man who could carry on a conversation about almost anything.

Ross’s career was in accounting and tax preparation.  Many of his long-time clients became friends and many friends were clients. He was always there to help out when he could. Ross will be both fondly remembered and sadly missed but he is now out of pain.

Ross was a regular donator to several charities. Those who wish to do so can certainly make a donation in Ross’s name to St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care, CNIB, The Winnipeg Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.

In accordance with Ross’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering to celebrate Ross will be planned at a later date.  Murray and Katherine are forever grateful for the amazing care that Ross received from his nurses and health providers at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit and for friends like family.

  4. Ross was a boyhood friend from the first time we met. I had so many excellent adventures with him it’s hard to put them in any sort of order. We never dreamed of this happening back then it was a long string of great times and partying like the world was going to end. Sadly they have but I have no doubt we will all meet again on the other side.
    See you later my friend.

Dearest Ross, so many wonderful, adventurous memories of our teen years. Thinking of your wicked smile, quick wit, and charming (yes charming) character brings happiness to my heart. You were always an old soul, Ross. You had this somewhat hidden wisdom we knew was there even during our prankster youth. And you cared for your friends just as we cared for you. Even though decades may have separated us, fond loving memories resonate as if it was yesterday. Blessed are those who will encounter you on this new journey. We will meet again on the other side.

  11. Murray and Kathy, I’m deeply saddened to learn about Ross’s passing . I happened to have a dream about him last night, where he was smiling brightly and looked wonderful, and I was just so glad to see him again after such a long time. I did an online search today and found this notice. It was truly a privilege to know Ross and to consider him one of the many older “brothers” I had growing up.
