1934 – 2019

The family of Ronald J. Smith is thankful to have shared in his life. His death on June 25, 2019, was as gentle and peaceful as the man himself.

Ron loved life. He was blessed with a cheerful and completely natural disposition. What you saw, you got and people liked him for it. Ron’s many medical issues were born without complaint. He always looked at the bright side.

Ron worked at CNR for 38 years, retiring in 1989, giving him more time for golf. He won four Winnipeg Canoe Club championships and later joined Elmhurst. His last years of golf were played at River Oaks with friends he called “The French Connection.” Many happy times were spent in Palm Springs getaways with Marge and Bill, David and Pat and close friends. Son Guy and Mina also came to Palm Springs making special memories.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother Charlie and his wife Anne; and sister-in-law Marge. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Bertha; son Guy (Mina); brothers Bill and David (Pat); and his nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a private celebration of life will be held.

Flowers gratefully declined. Those wishing to do so may donate to a charity of one’s choice.

A big thank you to the nurses and aides at Victoria General Hospital, 4th floor south. Your compassion and care were truly appreciated.
