May 12, 1951 – February 21, 2019

Mike passed away peacefully surrounded by love after living with brain cancer for over a year.

Mike worked at Winnipeg Hydro for 30 years until his retirement in 2000.  He moved on to his next career as a bartender at many bars, including The Tyndall Hotel, The Oak Bank Bar (OBB), The Royal George and the Royal Canadian Legion.

Mike was a true gentleman; charming, quick-witted and a bit rough around the edges.  He earned a fifth-degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do and competed in many martial arts competitions.  He taught Tae Kwan Do in Winnipeg and in Cooks Creek for many years.  Mike owned and showed miniature horses and was the founder of the Miniature Horse Association of Manitoba. Mike was also an avid cyclist, runner and curler.  His love for motorcycle riding took a back seat when marriage and raising his two sons, Andrew and Robert became a priority.  Once the boys were grown and Mike was single again, he bought a motorcycle and enjoyed riding until he was no longer able.

Mike and Kim enjoyed 13 years as partners in life.  Together they rode their motorcycles from coast-to-coast in Canada, with the highlight of their riding being their 2016 trip to Newfoundland.  They also enjoyed some trips in the States.  Mike retired permanently in 2016 and lived for riding during the summers.  When not riding, Mike enjoyed his days by banging on the drum kit, cooking, enjoying a cigar, a drink and crossword puzzle on the patio while waiting for “my Kimmy” to come home from work.  He lived life to the fullest, with few regrets.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Robert and Nora; his beloved son Andrew; and brother-in-law Fred Gailus.

He is survived by his son Robert; daughter-in-law Leticia; wife Kim; her children Kelsey and Ian; his brother Richard; sister Andrea Gailus as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends, and his best pal, his cat, Put Put.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  An informal gathering will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81, 300 Trent Avenue on Thursday, February 28 beginning at 3:30 pm.  A Eulogy will be given at 4:30 pm.

Mike’s family wishes to express their thanks to Cancer Care Manitoba as well as the amazing staff at Riverview Health Care Centre 3 East for the care and compassion shown to Mike.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Andrew Dunn Fund, Box 89, Oakbank, MB,  R0E 1J0 or a charity of your choice.
