July 1, 1932 – February 24, 2020

Peacefully with family by her side, Marion passed away at the Grace General Hospital in Winnipeg, on Monday, February 24th at the age of 87.

Marion is survived by her children, daughter Barbara (Tom) McLaughlin, sons Bryan Cox, and Gary (Marlene) Cox.  Her grandchildren Sarah (Joe) Nowicky, Vicki Parisian, and Hannah Cox.  Great grandchildren Ethan and Joshua Nowicky.  She is also survived by siblings Sue (Brian) Norris, Fran Kozun, Dave (Lorraine) Thurston, and many nieces and nephews.

Marion was predeceased by her parents Harold and Margaret Thurston (nee Olafson), brothers John and Delbert Thurston, brother in law Bill Kozun, and in December, 2019, son Jack Cox.

Marion was born in Ochre River, MB.  The family moved to Winnipeg in 1933 where she lived until 1946.  After this, they moved to the Thurston family farm in Clandeboye, MB.  Marion preferred city life and moved back to Winnipeg in 1951, after she got married.

Marion had a variety of occupations besides being a stay at home mom.  In her youth, she worked at Victoria Beach Bakery, and as a young adult, at Cox’s Bakery in Winnipeg.  Later in her life, she worked at the Eaton’s downtown store until her retirement at age 64.

Marion had various hobbies including gardening, knitting, sewing, reading, cooking and baking.  Family and friends enjoyed going to her home to sample her delicious creations.

When her children were young, Marion enjoyed spending summers at the family cottage in Ponemah Beach, MB.

Marion thoroughly enjoyed her house and yard, and was fortunate to live there independently until shortly before her passing.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the Silver Heights Restaurant, 2169 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB., or a charity of your choice.
