Lutz Joachim

April 10, 1950 – November 12, 2018

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our husband, dad and grandpa, Lutz Joachim on November 12, 2018.  Lutz was predeceased by his father Walter in 1968 and his mother Ruth in 2015.  He leaves behind his loving wife Michele of 31 years, his son Darryl, his daughter Vanessa (Cole), grand-daughter Juliette and his two daughters from his first marriage, Karen and Kelly.  He is also survived by his three brothers and two sisters, Peter, Monika, Klaus, Mike and Rosie as well as numerous other relatives.

Lutz was born in West Berlin, Germany on April 10, 1950.  In December 1956, he immigrated to Canada with his family.  His father came six months prior to get established and they rented a home for a short time in Winnipeg before settling on a farm in the small town of Vivian in Springfield, MB where he grew up and attended school.

Lutz was born to be an entrepreneur. He was a jack-of-all-trades kind of guy who could do almost anything, but his passion and specialty was working with fiberglass, both in manufacturing and repair.  He got started in the industry, working at companies such as Structural Glass and Boler Trailers for a few years but was quick to start his own business.  His daughter Vanessa was so impressed with his talent in this field and Lutz was proud to see that she was following in his footsteps.  He was equally as proud of his son Darryl when he earned his degree in Civil Engineering in 2006.

Lutz also tried his hand in the fitness industry for a while and opened and operated Iron Works Gym from 1990 to 1997. From there he went back to what he loved and excelled in which was fiberglass as well as auto body work.  He accomplished so much impressive work and often displayed his masterpieces in The World of Wheels car show.   He even went so far as to incorporate a GMC Surburban with a Dodge Ram and it was dubbed the “Ramburban”.

He enjoyed travelling when his children were young and took them to visit most of the provinces in Canada as well as almost all of the states in the U.S. He also took great pride in his children’s interests and spent many years getting them to and from their activities and attending their practices and games.    Once his children were grown, his fur babies took over his time and heart, starting with his beloved dog Bob who was by his side until his passing in 2016.  His current buddies, Maggie, Louie and Ernie are lost without him.  He also loved talking and being with his friends, charming them with his sense of humor and funny character.

In 2010, he was finally able to build the shop of his dreams when he purchased a property back in the RM of Springfield.  He also made time to completely remodel the entire home on his own to make it perfect.  His talent and knowledge was truly remarkable and he always worked so very hard for his family.

Lutz was an extremely generous man who thoroughly enjoyed helping and doing things for the many people that he knew.  We love him so much and know he will live on in our hearts and minds forever.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue at Henderson Hwy.
