March 19, 1956 – September 14, 2020

We are sad to announce the passing of Lucienne, after a rapidly-progressing battle with lung cancer at age 64 years.

Lucienne was my best friend that I fell in love with at first sight. To know her was to love her. She loved travel, be it a ride across town or vacationing with our favourite travel partners Juliette and Richard to warm climes or European destinations. She was intensely competitive. Any get-together with Juliette involved a board game, especially Scrabble. I never knew her to spell a word wrong. Lucienne had a passion for family research that she pursued for over 20 years. She was always looking for a new pursuit in life, be it sharing gardening tips with Marie-Claire, collecting and refinishing antiques, hunting for mushrooms or practicing yoga. She related to me thousands of anecdotes over the years about good times spent with all of her siblings.

To say we will miss Lucienne is an understatement. She was funny, level-headed and always prepared. She would spend hours planning, be it to go to the lake or go on a family vacation. All I had to do was load up the car. She and I would talk to each for hours about anything under the sun. One cannot describe this loving person with a few words. Thank you, Lucienne for putting up with me for 45-plus years.

Mom, you are the most selfless person I have ever known. Thank you for everything you have taught me, your kindness, generosity and support throughout my life have meant more than you know. Je t’aime.

Lucienne knew of her possible parting and had these words to pass on…

Thank you, Mom (Cécile Grégoire/St. Vincent) and Dad (Hercule) for the gift of life.

Thank you to my siblings and their partners for keeping life interesting in childhood and adulthood: Robert (1957-2001), Émile (Bonita), Alphonse (Sharon), Marie-Claire, Henriette Proulx (Marcel), Juliette Nadeau (Richard), Louis, Monique Vermiere (Gord), Joseph (Joanne), Cécile.

Thank you to my three favourite men: husband, lover and best friend Ross, most loving and caring child Garret and grandson Ashton, my special surprise.

Also my three beautiful Yewish grandchildren: Todd, Brielle and Brynnley. I was present at all three of your births and have loved you since. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.

Finally, to Wanda, the best friend of a lifetime – intense and low maintenance.

The family would like to thank the caring team at Saint-Boniface General Hospital who ensured Lucienne’s comfort in her final hours.

A private celebration of life will take place with internment at the Gull Lake Pioneer Cemetery at a later date.
