It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of their brother Louis on Thursday, February 21, 2019. Louis passed away after a lengthy stay at Concordia Hospital.

He is survived by his brother Ron (Linda); nieces Tara, Rhonda Hudon-Radakovits (Andre); and their children Eva, Sam and Lucy. Also mourning his loss is his sister Eleanor Griffifths (Jim), nieces Christina Nichol (Curtis) and their children Isaac and Amelia; Kathy Yerex (Rob) and their children Bruno and Beatrice. He was predeceased by his parents Ludwig and Eva Radakovits.

Louis lived all his life in Elmwood in the home he grew up in. He loved his home because of the many good childhood memories he had with his family. As an adult in this same home, he continued to create many of his own “treasures” and memories.

He was proud that he made teaching his chosen profession and he loved teaching. Louis taught high school for 25 years, most of those years at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. At the school, he helped coach wrestling, baseball, and girls’ basketball. His favourite saying to his nieces were “knowledge is power girls” and “educational pursuits open the door to many gateways.” His nieces fondly recall how he was always there for their sports activities, supporting and cheering them on and giving them advice on how to play fairly but to their best abilities.

Louis was loved by God; he was one of God’s treasures in a fragile earthen vessel. Louis was a man of great faith and studied God’s word faithfully. He was a long time church member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Sherwood Park Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday school for many years and often said that relating and communicating with young people was invigorating.

Louis was an excellent golfer and was passionate about playing the game. He studied all the right techniques of the game and put into practice what he learned on each course that he played. He followed professional sports teams on TV, especially NFL and CFL football; hockey, especially our own Winnipeg Jets, and curling. He especially liked watching women’s curling.

He loved to garden and spent many summers planting, tending and harvesting vegetables in the garden out at his brother’s property.

For what endures in our lives is not so much the words that we have exchanged with each other, but rather what endures are the acts of love which he so willingly showed to all, over his lifetime.

We would like to thank all the staff on North 1 at Concordia Hospital for their care, patience and compassion shown to Louis during his stay.

Cremation has taken place and a family interment will take place in the summer.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
