Lana Burman

Picture of Lana Burman

March 28, 1928 – February 16, 2019

On February 16, 2019, Lana passed away peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness.

She is survived by her daughter Brenda Backé (Ralph); grandchildren Marisa Backé (Justin) and Severin Backé; sister Merle Bilan; and special nephew James Bilan (Karen).

Lana was a trained seamstress and pattern designer and was known for her sense of style and for her amazing eye for design and fashion. Lana spent her working career at Air Canada Finance and unwillingly retired at the then-mandatory age of 65.

While the throes of dementia took away Lana’s ability to walk for miles dressed to the nines in her four-inch heels and cook gourmet meals; her family was blessed to learn another side of her. While still as sassy as ever, she became a sillier, gentler version of herself. She enjoyed the simple things like receiving hugs and letting you hold her hand.

A heartfelt thank you to Tuxedo Villa Extendicare for their loving care of Lana and especially all the amazing nurses and healthcare aides on unit 2.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family interment and celebration of life at a later date.

“Mom, Lana, Grandma, we love you and will miss your feisty personality. Into the freedom of the wind and sun, we have let you go!”
