Kim Allan Young

December 31, 1955 – September 26, 2018

With grief beyond description, the family of Kim Young regretfully announce his passing on Wednesday, September 26, at the Pinawa Hospital. Kim is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Kerri, his much-loved children Joel (Lori, Lily, Sage), Dustin (De-Anna, Lexis, Dustin Jr., Scarlett, Ryland), Kelsi (Trent, Venna), and Shea (Nova). Kim is also survived by his father Jim (Aileen), two brothers, four sisters, brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kim was predeceased by his mother Peggy and in-laws Joseph and Margaret.

Kim was born in Winnipeg where he spent his early years. He grew up in the Fort Rouge area where he attended Churchill High School. During his years at Churchill, he excelled at football, eventually being inducted into the Churchill Bulldogs Hall of fame. Kim continued his football career with the Winnipeg Rods Football Club. He proudly wore the number 22 which became his number for life.

Kim was employed with Manitoba Hydro retiring in 2014 after thirty-five years of service. During his career with Manitoba Hydro, he spent time in Gillam and at the Kelsey Generating Station where he made many lifelong friendships.

In 1989 Kerri and Kim moved to Great Falls Manitoba where he resided until his time of passing. Times spent on his deck were epic and he welcomed many buddies with the line “You got time”? You could always find Kim walking with his faithful companion Roxy sporting his Ray Bans and a great tan. Kim loved spending time in his yard where he spent many hours working to make it look perfect.

Passionate about all sports he especially loved his Boston Bruins, Winnipeg Jets, Miami Dolphins, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers where he was one of the original “Gotchmen”.

Most important to Kim was family. He loved Kerri and his children unconditionally and never missed a chance to let them know it. His passing has left a huge hole which will never be filled.

The family would like to thank the numerous caregivers during Kim’s long battle with cancer. Most importantly we wish to thank Dr.Bruneau and his staff at the Lac du Bonnet Medical group for always going above and beyond for us. To all the nurses at Cancer Care in Pinawa, we give a huge thank you. Lastly to the nurses and staff at the Pinawa Hospital with whom we couldn’t have asked for better care. You treated Kim and all of us with respect and gave so much of yourselves to make sure we were all comfortable during his stay. We really can’t thank you all enough.

Kim was a true warrior, a Lion King who fought so very hard for 14 years to stay with us. He was such an inspiration and we will never forget him.

As per Kim’s request, there will be no formal service. A celebration befitting Kim will be held at our residence in Great Falls in the summer of 2019.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are sent to Cancer Care Manitoba, The Pinawa Hospital or a charity of your choosing.
