It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our adored husband, father, poppa, uncle, brother, cousin and friend. Ken Passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He leaves to mourn his wife of 44 years, Andrea (Maidment); his children, David and Robyn (Delorme); Jeffrey and Mandy (Phillips); Kevin and Kristina (Colatruglio); his grandchildren, Joey and Rylea; Bethany and Rachel; Kailee, Carson, Emma, and Sophia; his siblings, Linda Cowan; Janice Royer and Kevin; Keith and Penny (Reid); Arlene and Stephen Macduff; Lynne (Maidment) and Pat Gray; Janet (Maidment) and Ken High); Julie (Maidment) and Brent Wall; Michael Maidment and Angie (Capek); his mother-in-law Rina (Campbell) Maidment along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, neighbours and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents, Al and Lou (McMurray); his father-in-law, Ron Maidment; and his brother-in-law, Gary Cowan.

Ken was born and raised in Winnipeg before moving to Stony Mountain in his early teens. He attended high school at Stonewall Collegiate before going on to study at The University of Winnipeg and Red River Community College. After completion of his education, Ken joined the family businesses of Al’s Towing, Heavy Haul and Craneall. Later, he started Central Crane and became an advisor to other businesses. Ken was very hardworking and dedicated individual to the transportation, heavy construction and recovery industries. In addition to being a certified business administrator, Ken operated all sorts of specialized heavy equipment. Most recently, he traveled to western Canada as a journeyman, red seal crane operator. He participated in and held office for numerous committees including the Manitoba Trucking Association, the Worker’s Compensation Board Task Force and the Heavy Equipment Rental Association of Manitoba. Ken was very involved with the Stony Mountain Masonic Lodge and the Community Round Table Committee.

He enjoyed sports, especially football. He had a special interest in magic. He liked relaxing around the fire and having a hot chocolate outside. His family remembers spending a lot of time camping, fishing, working together and travelling the countryside. He seemed happiest surrounded by family and friends for holidays and other celebrations. He loved having everyone over for big family dinners. Family is what meant the most to him. He loved volunteering his time to friends, family and the community especially around Christmas. Ken found great pleasure in giving treats to others, including the neighbourhood fur friends and other creatures of nature.

Ken was a very generous, giving, kind-hearted, smart, selfless, caring and dedicated man with a quick wit and an incredible sense of humour. He loved to engage in playful banter with those who were willing to participate and even with those who were less interested. He took the time to check in with everyone regardless of his own circumstances and often went to great lengths to find others just exactly what they were needing or looking for. No matter what or when, you could always count on Ken! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank all of the Health Care Professionals who gave him care in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honour to the charity of your choice. No Funeral will be held at this time.

“As long as we live, we’ll always be glad that

we were your children and you were our dad”

Thanks for everything! We love you and miss you!

“Until we meet again, Toots!”

Rest in Peace

  8. Andrea and all your Loved Ones
Words cannot express deeply enough the sadness we felt when Lil Halbert phoned us about Ken’s passing. I’ve thought about you both so many times and now really regret not just picking up the phone to touch base. Quite often when I did phone it was Ken that answered and we would have a chat. He always said Andrea that you were up to your ears with something but you never told him what. Your visits as Mr. and Mrs Santa was a great treat for our two grand kids Weslee and Owen. The expression of their faces were priceless. I phoned our neighbours to come and join us and he loved to take pictures so it was a fun afternoon for us all. Living down Home Street from you Andrea allowed us to enjoy your and Ken’s courting days. Please feel this BIG HUG from us along with our prayers. Rest in Peace Good Friend.

Andrea, we were so shocked to hear of Ken’s passing. It’s still hard to believe. Our heart goes out to you & your family. On our daily walks past your house Ken would always find the time to tell us a joke or ask how everyone was. We will miss his witty banter, and never forget his generosity in giving Matty her daily cookies. Matty still turns her head as we walk by to see if he’s there. He may be gone but will always be remembered.

  12. So sorry to hear of Kens passing. I worked with Ken on a few different jobs in western Canada. He was a pleasure to work with and a pleasure to talk with and be around. He was a genuine honest down to earth stand up guy. Rest In Peace my friend.
