Harold Schroeder

Harold Schroeder, 62, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023 after a journey with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

He was predeceased by his parents Henry (Heinz) Schroeder and Ilse Schroeder (Lange). He is survived by his daughter Candice (Stephen); grandson Walker; sister Barbara (Rudolf); his nephews and niece Cameron (Laura) and their children Abigail, Blake and Daphne; Megan; Warren (Jayne).

Harold was a kind-hearted person who loved to socialize and was loved by many. He travelled to live in Edmonton for a few years, where he explored the city, but he always felt at home in Winnipeg with his community of close friends. Harold had a few hobbies that he enjoyed in his free time. He loved building model cars and had a particular interest in Marilyn Monroe and had a vast collection of her memorabilia.

We would like to thank the Cancer Care Manitoba, The Hope Foundation and the Winnipeg Soup Fairies, as well as a thank you to the St. Boniface Home Care and Palliative Care teams, the many staff in St. Boniface Hospital 8A Palliative Care ward, and Voyage for the kindness, and compassion they gave to Harold and our family.

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Harold’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in honour of supporting fighters and caregivers of Glioblastoma and other forms of Brain Cancer.

Contributions can be made to the Slay Society at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/slay-society/?mprompt=1 , Cancer Care Manitoba or any charity of ones choice.

  1. It was a pleasure knowing Harold and having him in our life as a friend. My house was never tidier than when we returned from a winter vacation and Harold had been housesitting for us. What a treat!!!! Something I will always remember about Harold is whether I talked to him in person or on the phone, the first thing he would do is ask “How are the girls?”…”How are the grandkids?”. Then he would go on with questions to make sure they were all doing OK. Very thoughtful. Harold was kindhearted and honest and had a good heart. This cannot be said about too many people in the world. Rest in Peace, Harold…..I know Marilyn Monroe had you first on her list of people to be with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XOXOXO.
