April 5, 1951 – April 15, 2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. After a strong fight against lung cancer and other health issues that arose, Don passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospice with family by his side.

Don will be sadly missed by his wife Marsha; children Dwayne, Deanna (Dave) and Wayne (Tanya); grandchildren Brayden, Atley, Colton and Taome; siblings Margaret (Frank), Stewart (Darlene) and Olive; mother-in-law Helen; and brother and sister-in-law Brenda (Jeff) and Kevin (Yvette); along with his nieces, nephews and many friends.

Don was predeceased by his parents Hiram and Lillian Shaw; sisters Helen Moore and Lila Funk; nephew Jim Wilm; and brother-in-law Steve Deveau.

Don was the second youngest of a sibling group of six. He was born and raised in Cartwright, Manitoba. At the age of 20 Don moved to Winnipeg where he started working as a truck driver for Midway Roofing and later became a long-haul truck driver for Paul’s Hauling for ten years. Don then purchased his own semi-truck and was an Owner Operator for Trimac Transport Ltd, Kleysen’s Transport Ltd and Bison Transport. Don drove millions of miles over a time span of almost fifty years and received several rewards as a result. Don stopped trucking when he became ill in August 2019.

Don was a very kind, generous and hardworking man. He will be forever remembered by his quick wit, dry sense of humor and contagious laugh. Don loved telling jokes (some of which only he understood) and enjoyed playing tricks on his family and friends. Don also liked going on long bike rides, listening to music, spending time with his grandchildren and camping with family. Don loved his family and would do anything for them.

We are very grateful for the help, love and support we received from family and friends during this difficult time. We also want to thank the staff at the Grace Hospice for the excellent care. Don really enjoyed his time at the Grace Hospice. He and his family made many lasting memories while he resided there.

Cremation has taken place. As a result of the COVID-19 situation, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Don’s memory to the Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation or The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba.
