Dianne Derkatch
March 3, 1948 – November 28, 2024

With deep sadness, the family of Dianne Derkatch announces her sudden passing at the age of 76 on November 28, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.

Dianne (née Achtymichuk) was born on March 3, 1948, to Mike and Mary (Chorney) Achtymichuk. The eldest of four children, she was raised on the family farm south of Verigin. Dianne attended Rona School and later continued her education in Kamsack, eventually completing a Secretarial Course in Yorkton.

In 1967, Dianne met the love of her life, Albert Derkatch. They were married on July 15, 1967, and were blessed with a son, Dean. Dianne devoted herself to her family, taking great pride in caring for them. The family lived in Yorkton, where Dianne maintained beautiful gardens both in town and on the family farm. She was known for her love of canning and freezing vegetables, often sharing her harvest with family and friends. Her exceptional cooking and baking skills, particularly in traditional Ukrainian dishes and sweet treats, brought joy to all who tasted them.

Dianne had a creative side and enjoyed hobbies such as crocheting, painting by number, and assembling puzzles. She was an avid Bingo player, relishing both the game and the camaraderie it brought. A passionate reader, she cherished her collection of fiction books.

Known for her kind, quiet, and gentle nature, Dianne always had a smile on her face and uplifting words to share with those around her. She cherished time spent fishing with Albert, even on days when the catch was minimal, and she enjoyed regular coffee gatherings with friends at McDonald’s.

Dianne was a valued member of her community, working for 34 years at Redeemer’s Voice Press in Yorkton. There, she contributed to typesetting, Ukrainian translation, and the annual arrangement of the Julian Calendar, roles that gave her great satisfaction.

After Albert’s passing in 2018, Dianne moved to Winnipeg, where she treasured visits from her son, Dean. She formed a close bond with Debbie and her family, who welcomed her with open arms. Dianne also enjoyed trips to the U.S. for shopping and visiting family in Arizona and British Columbia.

Dianne was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert; her parents Mike and Mary Achtymichuk; her brothers-in-law Bob Brodsky and Eric Gross; her sister-in-law Darlene Robertson; her in-laws Anton and Lena Derkatch; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Dean (Debbie) of Winnipeg; her sister Rose Brodsky (Kelowna, BC); her brothers Larry (Margo) Achtymichuk (LaRonge, SK) and David (Joyce) Achtymichuk (Chemainus, BC); brother-in-law Colin Robertson (Saskatoon, SK); sister-in-law Joyce Gross (Yorkton, SK); as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Dianne has now been reunited with her husband, parents, and other loved ones who were an integral part of her life.

In accordance with Dianne’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private cremation has already taken place. The family kindly asks for your understanding and respect for their privacy during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society as a gift of remembrance.
