David Harding Nash

November 3, 1948 – April 15, 2022

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved David Nash on April 15th at West Park Manor in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Loving husband to Susan, dear father to Leigh (Tim) and Karen, grandfather to Madisen (20), Mariah (19), Sabrina (18), Carter (14), Zachary (12) and great grandfather to Ellie (11 months).

Sue was and always will be the love of Dave’s life, married for 50 years. They started their lives together in Pierrefonds-Roxboro (A ma Baie) and within two years moved to St. Lazare, Quebec where together they built and sold furniture at Finnegan’s Market, rode their horses through the many nearby trails, built their first home and raised their daughters Leigh and Karen.

Dave started out as a millwright at Robert Mitchell in Lachine but later joined the workforce at Air Canada becoming a lead mechanic. When the opportunity presented itself he transferred to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he was blessed to work with some more terrific guys, and later retired in 2008.

Dave was always up for a good laugh, loved to make jokes, and host coffee & chat in the garage with his buddies. The garage was the neighbourhood drop-in place. Even if you didn’t know Dave, if you walked by you were invited in to join the fun. If you happened to be there near lunch or dinner time you were always offered a burger on the BBQ. Dave would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need, always helping family, friends, neighbours or even friends of friends, and you were always named a “Buddy or Pal” in his eyes.

He loved his grandchildren beyond words and enjoyed spending any time he could with them. He loved teaching them how to ride bikes, build toys, fix cars, taking them for lunches, and to Dollarama, often sneaking them a few bucks to buy something they wanted. Leigh and Karen were very close to their dad. When they were young kids he would take them for brunch on Sundays. Saturdays he would take them to Finnegan’s Market or to visit friends where they would watch him fix tractors, cars, boats or build decks or sheds, etc…. They learned everything they know about renovating and fixing things from Dave.

Friends of Leigh and Karen would often mention how welcoming the Nash house was and that Dave felt like a second dad to them. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His passing leaves a huge void in our lives as we continue our journey here on earth without him.

If you wish to honour Dave we humbly ask that you just ‘pay-it-forward’.

  1. This is a beautiful tribute to a great man. You were all lucky to have him as a husband/father/grandfather. I’m very grateful to have known ‘Dad’ as long as I have. Thank you all for bringing me into the ‘Nash’ fold. He is going to be very missed.

  2. Beautifully written about a wonderful loving Dad, husband, grandpa, uncle, brother-in-law & gréât grandpa. Dave always loved to joke around but also loved to help family & friends. He will be dearly missed. Thank you Dave.

  3. I love you uncle Dave and I’ll miss you so very much. I always felt happy around you and loved. You were an amazing role model to me and I looked up to you so much. You raised a wonderful family and even taught your daughters how to be independent and handy! When Leigh came to visit me in Calgary a few years ago, my dryer was in the Fritz and she jumped right in to help me troubleshoot! We got it working and felt like heroes…lol! These are the legacies you have left. You will always be remembered and always loved ❤️

    Dear Karen & family,
I am so sorry for your loss and have been thinking a lot about all of you. Dave had 3 incredible women in his life, he was very lucky. May you honor him everyday and know that he is still with you now, everywhere you go and in a very special way. Sending love and strength from Montreal.
    Love,
    Sarah
