   I have many fond memories of Uncle Charlie as he was always very kind to me and my sister Ingrid. He was such a brave young man serving in the Canadian Navy during the Second World War and then a devoted husband to my aunt Connie and father to his children, including his son Stuart who predeceased him. His sister, Ethel (my mother), who is the last of the Bailey siblings, misses him very much, too.

   I’ll drink a beer and toast your memory, Uncle Charlie! Thank you for always being there for me. I know you’re reunited now with so many people you loved and lost.

   I was thinking about my uncle Charlie. I was thinking about how my mom told me that my Amma suffered so much worrying about him every single day…and cried when he was in the Navy. I have a picture of my mom wearing his uniform and hat actually. My uncle was a very soft spoken and kind person, named after his father. I hadn’t seen my uncle in a very long time, but his passing brought back memories of sleepy summer days, visiting with my family as a child and the happiness we had back then.
