June 4, 1940 – July 11, 2019

It is with great sadness on July 11, 2019, we announce the passing of Alan Crawford Vass (Ol’Poop). Beloved husband of Patricia Vass (Inch); he was predeceased by his parents Andrew Vass and Kathleen Vass.

He leaves behind his children Andrew (Leslie), April, Alan Jr., Arthur (Lisa), Tamara (Regis) and Jeff; his grandchildren, David (Alice), Marlene (Travis), Adam, Azia, Travis, Kevin, Andrew, Aivin; along with his great grandchildren, Maddison and Cooper.

Alan was born June 4, 1940 in Morden, Manitoba. He lived there until he was 10 years old, before moving to Thunderbay Ontario. When he was old enough Alan joined the Navy and became part of the HMCS Outremont.  From there he got to see the world. Once he returned, he met his first wife Marlene and she blessed him with four amazing children.

He spent his life working hard for his family. In that time of work and play he found the love of his life Patricia. She also blessed him by already having two children of her own that he fell in love with and from then on the love story continued.

He enjoyed life to the fullest, always around his family and friends. Giving advice where was needed and some places that it was not. His cheerful laugh and smile was contagious. Annually was the Festival du Voyageur where he entered the beard growing contest and wouldn’t you know it, he won.

Alan loved his wife and his motorcycles, he took them everywhere so much so that he managed to surprise Pat by taking her to Sturgis where he finally purposed and they got married in Deadwood.

In this time, we would like to take a moment and thank all the doctors and nurses at the St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba for making the time there peaceful. They were a blessing in helping take care of Dad. To all the angels from homecare that also helped take care of Dad for the last ten years we as a family couldn’t thank you enough.

To my mom, thank you for all that you are. Your strength and courage and compassion and love you have always given dad is the reason we all felt comfort and peace. You were his rock and will forever be his soulmate and love of his life.

The family invites you all to come to a celebration of Alan’s life on Friday, July 19, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Fort Garry Order of the Eagles, 3459 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Big Al, you are by far the best buddy anyone could have, even if you rode a Harley. It won’t be the same without you here to trade jokes about the Army and Navy.. I salute you on your final sailing, I hope you have a wind at your back and a full tank of gas.
