Helen Constantinides

Helen Constantinides

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Helen Constantinides, peacefully on March 19, 2021. Helen was predeceased by her husband Prodromos and son Stavros.

Helen is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Maria (Silvano) and Elizabeth (Garth), as well as her beloved grandchildren Christopher, Felicia (Ryan), Nicholas, Alexa and Elenna, whom she loved and cherished with all her heart. She is also survived by her sister Anthoula and brother Vasilis (Valia) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Greece, Helen immigrated to Winnipeg in 1959 and began work at the Health Sciences Centre (Women’s Hospital) in 1966 as a Nurse’s Aide. Helen loved her work on the Labour and Delivery unit and enjoyed pampering new moms and their babies for 25 years until her retirement. Helen’s career on the Labour and Delivery unit helped to cultivate many friendships and she maintained contact with many of her colleagues over the years.

Helen was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother and her greatest passion in life was her family. She was similarly adored by her children and her grandchildren who thought the world of their Yiayia. She loved cooking and sharing the authentic Greek food she made, and would always have a newly crocheted or knitted blanket for her daughters’ and nieces’ babies.  Helen was also a very skilled gardener who loved caring for her plants.  She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the news and current events.

We would like to thank Maria Arbuthnot, mom’s dear care giver and friend for her excellent care. Mom moved to the Rosewood Retirement Residence where she received outstanding care and compassion. We would also like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital for their exceptional care of mom. A private family funeral was held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Arrangements in care of Voyage Funeral Home and Crematorium.
