Darnell Josheph Rynn Fillion

Darnell Josheph Rynn Fillion
April 29, 1985 – May 18, 2023

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Darnell Fillion on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 38 years of age.

DJ was born in Winnipeg, MB on April 29, 1985, to Darnell Fillion and Debbie Fillion (Strong). He was named after his father, whom was responsible for filling out the birth certificate paperwork. And yes, if you’ve been wondering, he wrote ‘Joseph Ryan’ incorrectly. Although it became a running joke about the Fillion’s Misspelled names, DJ loved it. He would often exclaim that this made him unique. And no one can argue with that!

He proudly continued this tradition and gave his son the name Darnell as well. Although DJ struggled with fatherhood, he loved his son immensely, and would speak proudly of “Little D”.

DJ had a passion for art and would often be seen drawing or doodling. This passion led him to becoming a tattoo artist in recent years. Giving countless tattoos to the public, and amongst family and friends.

He grew up in the Elmwood area, often seen around the neighborhood making an impression on everyone he met. He attended Munroe Junior High, where he built lifelong friendships, and became Valedictorian for the 2000 Grade 9 Graduation.

In his speech, he wrote “The past is unchangeable… In a way, we will all be friends forever and the memories are hanging somewhere in the future when we will remember them… The memories won’t leave when we leave.” These words truly resonate today.

Although he is no longer with us physically, the memories we have of him will continue to be here, in the present and future.

DJ was predeceased by his grandparents Gilles and Ruby Fillion, Morris Strong, and Elizabeth Strong. He leaves to mourn his son Darnell; his parents Darnell and Debbie; his brothers Dustin (Mami) and Adam (Bobbie); and his sisters Amber and Cara (Cameron); along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A Private Funeral Service was held at Voyage Funeral Home.

A most heartfelt thank you and appreciation for your expression of love and support during our time of bereavement. May God Bless you.

With Love, The Fillion Family
